Image Packs
The first thing you should do to make your osCommerce site better is to install an image thumbnail contribution.  By default osCommerce takes one image size for each product and then scales this image using the clients browser.

This behavior is terrible at best.  Luckly there are lots of different image / thumbnail contributions out there that will help you solve this problem.

I usually end up using the Ultimate Image Pack contribution because I like having percise control over the way my images look.  The Ultimate Image Pack allows you to specify a small medium and large image plus 6 additional image with optional popups.  This usually cuts it for any product display needs.  Some people don't like this contribution if they have lots of products because it does require a lot of Photoshop work.  Photoshop work can be very tedious, and if you perfer to have the thumbnails automatically generated, you might want to consider one of the other many image contributions out there.
